The idea
You have a free weekend, £300 to £500 and a vague mood: somewhere social, a bit of sightseeing, flying from London. Normally that’s an evening of tabs for flights, hostels, blog posts and maps. Weekend Atlas takes the mood and the budget and gives you back one trip, with its reasoning.
What it does
It recommends a city and explains the choice, picks a hostel based on how social it is rather than just its rating, builds a Friday-to-Sunday itinerary and adds up the cost.
What we learned
We built the working skeleton in about a day and wrote up what a day of building does and doesn’t get you. The short version: language models are good at the soft parts of travel, like matching a city to a mood, and shouldn’t be trusted with a price.
Where it’s at
In the drawer. The prototype runs on sample data. To become a product it needs live hostel and flight data, and a way to pay for itself through booking commissions. We may come back to it combined with FlightWatch.
