The idea
A campaign shoot means a location, a photographer, models, styling and weeks of lead time. Small brands often launch a collection with nothing but flat product shots. We wanted to see how close we could get to campaign imagery starting from those alone.
What it looks like
Every image on this page shows the same brown and cream tracksuit. The idea is that the garment stays put, with the same cut, cream panels and piping, while everything around it changes: balloons, fur, smoke, a small storm.
Look closely at the chest and you’ll spot where it gets hard. The small logo doesn’t come out quite the same twice.
What we learned
Getting a striking image is the easy part. Getting a striking image where the product is still exactly the product takes most of the work, because image models like to “improve” details. They move a stripe, redraw a logo or nudge the shade of brown. So product fidelity is the first thing we check, and the look comes second.
The same problem shows up in InkOnMe, where the model must never change an artist’s design.
Where it’s at
The website and a first set of looks are done. The service behind it, meaning how briefs come in, how quickly images go out and what it costs, isn’t finished, so we aren’t taking bookings yet.
Questions
- What does a brand need to send?
- Photos of the product. Then you pick a visual direction from a set of looks, or describe your own.
- Does the product change in the images?
- It shouldn't, and that's the part we care about most. The cut, colour, trims and logos need to match the real garment, otherwise the images are no use for selling it.
- Can I book Jezai Studio?
- Not yet. We're still working out how briefs come in and images go out. Email us if you'd like to hear when it opens.
