The idea
Cheap flights appear and disappear within hours. FlightWatch lets you describe what you’re after, such as anywhere warm from London for under £80 return in October, and checks for it on a schedule so you don’t have to.
What it does
You create watchers with routes, dates and a price ceiling. FlightWatch scans on a schedule, removes duplicate deals so you aren’t alerted twice about the same fare, and sends an alert to Discord or by email. A small dashboard manages watchers and settings.
What we learned
The code was the easy part. The flight data provider it was built on closed to new users, which left a working app with nothing to search. We wrote about what we’d do differently.
Where it’s at
Paused until we swap in a new flight data source. The alerts, scheduling and deduplication all work and are covered by tests.
Questions
- Why is FlightWatch paused?
- It was built on a flight search API that stopped accepting new users. It needs a different data source before it can go any further.
